right, I was also wondering this morning on the train how we can support it on the non-PC platforms. That's where the money's at.
I agree with the social aspect with things like autolog. Consoles can still have private server options though can't they?
AMD Phenom II X4 965 @3.9Ghz | ATI Radeon HD 7870 @ 1200/1400 | G-Skill 8GB DDR3 | Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3 | Creative X-Fi Titanium |
60GB OCZ-VERTEX2 SSD | DELL 2407WFP: 1920x1200@60Hz | Win 7 Ultimate x64 | Logitech DFGT
They can do private lans, but im not sure on private servers but if you look at BF3 they do have rent-able private servers.
CPU:i7 3770k @4.4ghzGPU: KFA2 670 OC 4gb RAM: 16gb DDR3 1600hz OS: Windows 7 64bit Wheel: G25 PC Upgrade: SSD Monitor: Hazro HZ27WC 27" 1440p Car: MG Rover 25
Which is pretty crap imo, just another EA money making scheme really.
I'm liking the teams idea. This could be done similar to clans in BF3 through battlelog.

@Christopher Dorn I like it also and it is what i need only but i'm also intrested in SMS sucess to keep WMD alive to get a next Gen HQ titel, maybe two year's later again as to risk the pcars is the last train on you can jump up because it has failed. Me is the Multiplayer as Hardcore part ( SM part) only intresting for my own needs. But i wish also to see everything in the Sim what other's need even if it is something i don't need but important is for the success. Don't forget it is the first project like this for SMS and i think unique as it is so it is more important to generate money and not to make me lucky only as a little sim racer. Nobody can live with love only, even if i would love SMS after they release the hardest sim racing title as ever. It is difficult.
I have a question for Michele: In what capacity did 10tacle work on Ian and the gangs original Simbin titles?

my point with the wikipedia article was to show that racing games are NOT a niche market. It as a genre still compares very well to any other popular genre. You are comparing sales over a decade for multiple games , which some had totally different genre from what pCARS is.
Compare those sales with with the sales of GTR series as an example.
Since pCARS is not open world game, it is not an arcade racing game either it will be more of an iRacing,LFS,rFactor 2 equivalent which do not have such "awesome" sale numbers at all.
And pCars is most definitely NOT like iRacing, rFactor nor netKar. How on earth can you even come to that conclusion? The biggest difference is that it will be available on consoles!! This immediately changes things. It just isn't in the same league.. It's way bigger simply due to the amount and type of platforms it's released on.

Windows 8 64bit operating system. Logitech DFGT wheel.

Dude seriously you jumping from subject to other subject.my point with the wikipedia article was to show that racing games are NOT a niche market. It as a genre still compares very well to any other popular genre.

I am talking sales for the given genre.
I am talking it is very tiny compared to other "more casual" titles.
pCARS is not like iRacing ?
Sure it is not the same game but it "BELONGS" to the same sub genre of RACING-SIMULATORS as does rFactor2 and the rest of the bunch.
And no matter if it will be on consoles it will still belong to the same sub genre of "SIM RACING GAMES" , the place where iRacing, netKar,rFactor 2...belongs!
And I said it will be equivalent to iRacing or rFactor2 , not that it will be the same as the mentioned games.
My point still stands and it is valid , You can't mix up genres and sub genres how you like to get awesome "sale" figures!
You have to go down to the sub genre we talking about and compare the sales there.
We wont be fighting Grand Turismo nor Forza on the consoles ,since pCARS is a game on its own, a simulator (more or less) which compares more to an iRacing,rFactor 2 (experience) equivalent on the consoles!
That's why it will be new to the console users , because they have none of these more "serious" sim games....
I am not talking racing games are a NICHE market or something ,but it is relatively small compared to action/fps games for example...
And sorry to say so but I am getting tired of this "Sale" figures and NICHE market terms so please keep it simple and let's stop it right here because this all is just pure Speculation and maybe some Expectations but this all can be totally different in reality.
This game is planned for next year, by that time the market will shift rapidly and can change very often.
There are very good promising titles in the works (assetto , rFactor 2...), so it is very important from the Business view to plan the release very carefully...

" Core Quad Q6600 @ 3.0GHz ,ASUS Maximus Formula II ,GTX 480 SOC + Antec H2O 620 Water cooler ,6GB DDR2 RAM ,BENQ 24" MVA panel ,Logitech DFGT,Logitech Rumblepad 2 ,Sound Blaster Arena,Win 8 x64 Pro ,Fractal Design Arc Midi "
what you're both really trying to determine is the E[units shipped] (or expected commercial success) by comparing it to other games.
steventot is putting forth the argument that it is not comparable to GT5/Forza since it is in the "sim" sub-genre of racing games and subsequently we should lower our expectations. (correct me if I'm wrong, that's what it sounds like from where I'm sitting)
bmanic is arguing that the GT5/Forza is actually the correct benchmark since pCARS will be roughly targeting that "more serious"/non-arcade console racing audience regardless of how we sub-classify the game. Therefore we should expect commercial success (units shipped) at the level of GT5/Forza.
I tend to agree with bmanic.
