They're working with 38 Studios? Are we one of them LOL
On another note yes Our Government at all levels is out of control. Pees me off too.Here's some perspective, copy/pasted from Blues News;
What do we need.. like.. 1.3 million now? Some broke ass dev gets 75 mil from a state government, that you know they aren't going to pay back selling 410k games at a time. In my view, Rhode Island is throwing good money after bad. How the hell does that happen? It's not like it's General Motors.. it's a freakin' game developer.
Crazy.. especially when you consider that Schilling is loaded. He gets the tax payers to foot the bill, while his exposure is nill - unless on the odd chance they actually make some money. He'll pocket that.
Damn that pisses me off.

Do we know anything about the changes within the company yet? Or are we still waiting for some information?
Tried to catch up with last pages, but could not find anything regarding that matter.

What's not senseless is the fact that times are tough in the world right now and Ian is seeing that his people are getting paychecks and that we are getting a great product full of much enjoyment. That is some pretty stand up stuff if you ask me.

"Free money" is a euphemism... as in, this deal is so good it's like free money. We can nitpick it to death, but there is no such thing as a free ride. You can also use the term "risky" for anything. Walking out your front door in the morning is risky. You might get hit by a meteor.It's not "short sighted" at all, and it's not "free money". pCARS is a risky investment. Like with any risky investment, you get good money, when everything works to plan. But you can lose all your money when it doesn't.
Many game developers went bust in the past. Ian went bust with Blimey! Games before he started SMS.
It all depends on how open you are to risks (at least when people use their brain before throwing in the money.). It would be short sighted (close to stupid) to put more money in, than you can afford to lose.
And from what I can tell reading that article on Blimey, your characterization is very off.
That says to me that the parent company had some issues, and Ian just grabbed up the dev studio on his own. Again, that goes back to that character thing. Unless you're a star, you want to try to hitch your wagon to one.. and it sure is cool to do it in a business that is also a hobby.Blimey! Games has gone into administration as a result of the insolvency of its parent company 10tacle – but all staff and assets have been saved by a new outfit, Slightly Mad Studios, headed up by Blimey!’s former director Ian Bell.

In Highharti's defense, he never implied that Ian was involved in the failure. He was just pointing out that failure is not uncommon in the game biz, and can even affect someone we all know.

Sierra and Papyrus are examples of what can happen. I still think Papyrus could have pulled things together if they worked hard at restructuring in the wake of Sierra's demise. The guys at SMS have stood strong and stood togeher through thick and thin and live to fight another day. Unity is the key to success! Someone please tell the US Government that.
