Eleven different Fords to be available in Project CARS

London, May 30, 2012: Slightly Mad Studios are proud to announce they have signed a licensing agreement with the Ford Motor Company that will allow eleven iconic Fords to be included in the companyís WMD-powered Project CARS title.

Project CARS players will get to choose from eleven famous Ford models within Project CARS, ranging from powerful muscle cars and iconic sports car racing machinery to modern street & racing cars.

1966 Mustang 2+2 fastback (foundation trade dress for 1966 Shelby GT350)

The 2+2 Fastback was one of the first Mustangs that helped build the iconic name Fordís range of Mustang models has today.

Powered by a Ford 289 K-Code V8 engine putting out 274hp, the car was also the base for Carrol Shelbyís GT350 model.

1967 Ford MK IV

Better known as the GT40, the MK IV was the fourth evolution of Fordís legendary sports car racing challenger. Powered by a seven-liter V8 engine, the car went on to win both the 1967 Sebring 12 Hours & Le Mans 24 Hours in the hands of Bruce McLaren, Mario Andretti, Dan Gurney & AJ Foyt.

1972 Escort RS1600

The RS1600 was the sport version of Fordís Escort Mark 1 that was build from 1968 through 1974. Powered by a 16-valve Cosworth BDA engine, the car featured a sport suspension and strengthened bodyshells that made the RS 1600 a long-time favorite for amateur racing & rally drivers.

1980 Capri (Group 5 Ė Team Zakspeed)

Built by Team Zakspeed, the Group 5 version of the Ford Capri was one of the most extreme Ford race cars ever built. Powered by a twin turbo-charged 1.4 liter Cosworth BDA engine, the car predominantly raced in the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft, being driven by legends such as Klaus Ludwig & Hans Heyer.

1988 Sierra RS500 Cosworth (Group A)

Designed to the FIA Group A regulations for touring cars, the Sierra RS500 Cosworth successfully competed in the 1987 World Touring Car Championship where it narrowly missed out on winning the title. The car also proved to be very successful in national series such as the DTM where it clinched the title in 1988.

1997 Mustang Cobra (SCCA Trans-Am)

The Ford Mustang Cobra has made the Trans-Am history book as the seriesí most successful race car of all time. The car completely dominated the 1997 season, winning all 13 poles & races.

Built by Roush Racing, the Cobra weighed 1400 kilograms, using a pushrod V8 engine & five-speed gearbox.

2012 Fusion NASCAR Stock Car

The Fusion is Fordís weapon of choice for NASCAR Sprint Cup, helping the Ford Motor Company to two runner-up titles in Americaís most popular form of motorsport in 2008 & 2012.

The Fusion stock car weighs 1700 kilograms and is powered by a mighty V8 engine built by Roush Yates, putting out more than 850hp. The car is being driven by famous NASCAR superstars such as Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth & Gregg Biffle.

2012 Focus ST

The 2012 ST is the all-new top range model of Fordís Focus model range. Powered by a 2.0-liter twin-cam 16-valve EcoBoost four cylinder engine that provides 247hp, the Focus sprints from 0-60 in just 6.5 seconds.

To go along with the impressive performance, the car is equipped with plenty of sport features such as aluminum pedals, Recaro sport seats as well as Fordís Sport-Steering system.

2012 Focus ST (BTCC)

The Focus also has a presence in the British Touring Car Championship as Redstone Racing campaigns the Ford Focus ST touring car built to the Super 2000 regulations.

The car showed lots of promise in the early parts of the 2012 season as Mat Jackson was able to clinch two race wins at Donington Park & Thruxton.

2013 Falcon FG (Australian V8 Supercar Car of the Future)

Ford is one of two manufacturers involved in the hugely popular Australian V8 Supercar series. For 2013, the series will be switching to a new platform of cars, designed to be more cost effective and to offer better safety features.

The Falcon FG will be Fordís challenger starting with the 2013 season as the company will try to add to their five manufacturer titles clinched in Down Under since 2003.

2013 Ford Shelby GT500

Bearing the name of the late Carroll Shelby, the GT500 is the most powerful factory-made Ford Mustang ever built.

Powered by a supercharged 5.8 liter V8 engine putting out 650hp , the GT500 exceeds a top speed of over 310kph. The raw power is controlled by the finest technology as the car is equipped with Brembo brakes and Bilstein suspension.

The Fords will be available to drive in Project CARS later this year. WMD members will be able to take a virtual test drive once first versions of the cars have been completed by using the regular development builds of Project CARS. To shorten the waiting time, WMD members get to follow every aspect of the car development process on the WMD forums, from the first steps to the finished car out on track.

Yeah, great stuff! The Nascar Fusion, the Aussie V8 Falcon, the BTCC Focus and the ST are excellent choices imho! Superb job Suzy for getting those! :a04:

The rest is unnerving me a bit though, tbh. With "only" 50+ cars in the game, I just dont see why they chose to spend money and time on something like a 66 Mustang or a mid-90s Trans Am Mustang?! Or a overpowered showoff-mobile, even if it was the last true Shelby. Ford themselves say its not really meant for the track... And still no GT car... no Matech GT?!?

Good news but I know what you're saying. With this announcement we probably need a new minimum number of cars in the game poll because if all those Fords are included we're probably going to need 100-150+ cars to keep things balanced.

Just read on No Grip Racing the news that pCARS have been granted the Ford License!
11 modern and classic motors to tear down the beautiful digital scenery.

After Ford and Pagonda, I'm wondering which other big names are going to push this title even further!
This may open the way for more classic beauties to be included.

Well done SMS!!!! :a18:

I know Pontiac doesn't exist anymore but it would nice for GM to allow us to model some of the Trans-Ams on the cheap to keep the brand alive posthoumsly (sp?). I do have a relative that works at GM, he's C-level I think. But I'm sure Suzy is already in discussions with everyone in Detriot.

Ian, Rob, dont misunderstand me please - its not about personal taste, each and every car in that list (well except for that schwartzeneggeriffic Shelby GT500 maybe) is fantastic imho. I just dont see the context in the game for some of them, thats the whole message. I d hate to have a GT car less in the game because of that Trans Am Stang, no matter how glorious that machine is. Thats all I m saying.

Done with the constructive (uhm, I hope) criticism now, time to start the anxiously awaiting part for the Aussie V8, Focusses, Nascar Fusion... :)

With "only" 50+ cars in the game, I just dont see why they chose to spend money and time on something like a 66 Mustang or a mid-90s Trans Am Mustang?!

I view it more as the foundation of series, the '66 is a good start on something like FIA Historic GT, and Trans-Am speaks for itself. Single-car classes are better than zero-car classes in my opinion, and I can't think of any retail game with 90s Trans-Am beasts.

And still no GT car... no Matech GT?!?

I'm pretty sure Matech went out of business a few years back. The name is most likely now in Licensing Hell, that terrible place where names like Brabham and Team Lotus languish, never to be used again.

Can I take the announcement of the Focus ST and the Focus BTCC versions to suggest that you have given serious consideration to the idea of having several complete performance kits for selected base cars? E.g. 'Stock' (Focus ST), 'Street-legal high performance kit' (Focus RS) and 'Race Kit' (Group N/NGTC/DTM/GT3/2/1 as appropriate to the car in question)?

Great work to the whoever got this, I'm looking forward to . . . well everything really :D

Just curious: Did this go like the deal with pagani, where the modellers are in their secret bunkers making the cars before the agreement so that one can be in the soonest build?

I'm little disappointed. One really important car is missing - the 2012 Ford Focus S2000 TC (WTCC). I know it's similiar to BTCC but has some modifications and much more exciting engine.

And yes, I'm big WTCC fan. Great job with Ford licence. It's fantastic. A lot of great, iconic and exciting cars. But please, do that 1.6 turbo...

I don't think Ford themselves have built a GT1 Spec car, that first car is from Matech which ain't no more. So we'd either need another license for a real racing Ford GT or do a "SMS" version of it.

you have something mixed up there, the Capri is a 80s race car built to the FIA Group 5 regulations, it dosen't compare to a modern road-legal supercar at all :)But the figures are quite similar: 600bhp+, aero, and it's light. Although the car itself is a tad old the figures don't change with time, do they? :) I already can see tough and battles between this car and some of today's supercars coming. (I assume that you mean the modern cars will beat it, right?)

*ahem* Patrick... 2013 Aussie V8... *ahem* ;)I had to finish my list somewhere before I have a list of eleven cars, sorry ;) The whole f***ing list made my jaw drop, the announcement made my day. Great news for the Project, congrats to Suzy and the team.Ford is a massive Brand to have on board.
Really can't wait to drive the 1988 Sierra RS500 Cosworth,1972 Escort RS1600 and the 2012 Focus ST.
These ''Official'' licences should really help in converting the Forza and Gran Turismo players and will be a big help in attracting new comers to pCARS.
Don't know the costs to SMS in acquiring these licences but if you have the likes of Ford/Pagani etc logos on a game box you know it will really increase sales.
Hope this puts to bed the arguement that pCARS would not have enough official licences to compete with other games in the racing genre.
Looking forward to more big surprizes in the coming months, well done SMS.

Out of curiosity, are deals like this per title, over multiple titles or kind of perpetual? Since the content is this time developed by SMS for SMS, there isn't a publisher that can run away with it. But it'd also be a damn shame, if the whole sing and dance has to restart for a pCARS 2.

I maybe way of the mark but there could be some reasons why some cars aren't included in the line up.

Firstly the Mk2 GT40. I would imagine that this particular licence was just to expensive ??

And maybe the reason that the GT1 Ford GT is not included is that SMS are maybe considering a 2012/2013 GT series which wouldn't include that particular car ??

Just some thoughts :)

This announcement absolutely made my entire week. Almost every single Ford I was hoping and praying would make it into the game has been represented here. The only exception is - no modern Ford GT? Street version or FIA GT series? Still though, that's a truly awesome lineup from a variety of eras and discplines. Bound to keep fans of both racing cars and street cars happy :)

Edit: Apparently the above performance numbers are for the division 2 cars. There was a division 1 car with 600hp(!) I don't know which one we're getting (Suzy?).

Divison 1, that was Zakspeed's main challenger.

Wow. This is seriously fantastic news. Gives the game major credibility too. I am a little biased (as a Ford employee!), but so glad to see some "everyman" cars in the game at last (as well as some seriously crazy Ford motorsport specials of course!).

I still think we need more "normal" level cars in the game, so for example would be good to have a more standard road going Capri (eg a Mk 3 2.8i special for example... as per my avatar!) and build up to the Zakspeed, but I am nitpicking of course. At least with the Focus ST and the Escort and Sierra there are some relatively normal machines that a lot of us will have had real life experience with.

Look forward to Ian expanding on what the extra cars he mentioned might be... do we have options from the Ford catalogue that we could vote on?! Would be nice!

Fantastic work :a04: A real good spread to cover all people's tastes and provide loads of variety within the game. Leaving a few of the obvious ones out hopefully means that this will be a lasting relationship with Ford with the possibility of more content to come for sequels and/or DLC.

Ian's comment pretty much states that there is more big licencing news around the corner. Cannot wait. If it is anything near to being similar in magnitude to this Ford announcement then the mind boggles on what to expect... :a40::a45:

That news is off the chain. Unbelievable what we got so far and even more what we will get in near future.

The V8 COTF for me is one of the biggest additions to pCARS. But BTCC and a well known streetcar like the Focus are very important as well.

Well done SMS and FORD =)

Eleven different Fords to be available in Project CARS

London, May 30, 2012: Slightly Mad Studios are proud to announce they have signed a licensing agreement with the Ford Motor Company that will allow eleven iconic Fords to be included in the company’s WMD-powered Project CARS title.

Project CARS players will get to choose from eleven famous Ford models within Project CARS, ranging from powerful muscle cars and iconic sports car racing machinery to modern street & racing cars.

1966 Mustang 2+2 fastback (foundation trade dress for 1966 Shelby GT350)

The 2+2 Fastback was one of the first Mustangs that helped build the iconic name Ford’s range of Mustang models has today.

Powered by a Ford 289 K-Code V8 engine putting out 274hp, the car was also the base for Carrol Shelby’s GT350 model.

1967 Ford MK IV

Better known as the GT40, the MK IV was the fourth evolution of Ford’s legendary sports car racing challenger. Powered by a seven-liter V8 engine, the car went on to win both the 1967 Sebring 12 Hours & Le Mans 24 Hours in the hands of Bruce McLaren, Mario Andretti, Dan Gurney & AJ Foyt.

1972 Escort RS1600

The RS1600 was the sport version of Ford’s Escort Mark 1 that was build from 1968 through 1974. Powered by a 16-valve Cosworth BDA engine, the car featured a sport suspension and strengthened bodyshells that made the RS 1600 a long-time favorite for amateur racing & rally drivers.

1980 Capri (Group 5 – Team Zakspeed)

The Ford Mustang Cobra has made the Trans-Am history book as the series’ most successful race car of all time. The car completely dominated the 1997 season, winning all 13 poles & races.

Built by Roush Racing, the Cobra weighed 1400 kilograms, using a pushrod V8 engine & five-speed gearbox.

2012 Fusion NASCAR Stock Car

The Fusion is Ford’s weapon of choice for NASCAR Sprint Cup, helping the Ford Motor Company to two runner-up titles in America’s most popular form of motorsport in 2008 & 2012.

The 2012 ST is the all-new top range model of Ford’s Focus model range. Powered by a 2.0-liter twin-cam 16-valve EcoBoost four cylinder engine that provides 247hp, the Focus sprints from 0-60 in just 6.5 seconds.

To go along with the impressive performance, the car is equipped with plenty of sport features such as aluminum pedals, Recaro sport seats as well as Ford’s Sport-Steering system.

The Falcon FG will be Ford’s challenger starting with the 2013 season as the company will try to add to their five manufacturer titles clinched in Down Under since 2003.

WOW! That's great news! Congratulations SMS, Suzy and everyone else involved! And what a list of cars! I really can't wait to drive the Sierra RS500 Cosworth. Found a clip on youtube recently that I quite like.
Here it is...

Christ, it is getting better and better. I bet you a fiver that we'll reach the 100! The 100th car must be something really special, though. A Reliant Scimitar, for instance. Princess Anne had one, you know. ;)

http://youtu.be/NRuE38Bl5Mo"... most powerful mass produced V8 in the world"? To my knowledge neither the Koenigseggs nor the Gumperts are build to order and are indeed mass produced, both of them have V8's and both kick the ass of puny figures like 662 bhp.

It is however definitely the MOST produced V8 at that power level, but that's not what mass production means.

EDIT: Ach, drowning in a sea of plastic... Well, that's part of the experience I guess. =)

You're such a tease...personally I don't so much care about the make, but I'd like to see a whole bunch of GT3/GT2 cars like the Stuck^3 Lambo or the 458 from that series. Ah what the heck, just gimme the whole VLN24 lineup :D (well, except for the stupid Clio who crashed into the Mantey Porsche 3 seconds before the ending of the race...)

Really happy to see the '67 MkIV and pre-1974 Fords!
As for the others Fords, well I guess a lot of people were looking forward to them so it's a smart move to include them:)

More than everything, I'm happy that the 50 cars limit seems to be changed to a more appropriate number! Very curious about what other licenses SMS has in the sleeve!

What great news, I just finished watching "King of the Road," a Carrol Shelby tribute and couldn't stop thinking about how cool it would be to have one of the Ford GT's in the game, along with several Cobra variants, the Daytona and the GT350 (the GT500 was ugly). On that show, the new Shelby Ford GT350 beat a 997 911 Turbo, F430 Scuderia, Lamborghini Gallardo LP-5something and a Z06 Corvette around the roadcourse at Las Vegas Speedway, so it's not slow by any means. Hopefully there is a hidden message in the 66' Mustang description...
