Yesterday, Andy Garton showed off some very impressive previews of the new Connecticut Hill mid-afternoon lighting. Now, these stunning shots are available on the frontpage for everyone to enjoy:

I wanna go all Snap and sing Do You See The Light!

A little more global lightning (look at the front of car. Too dim) and some clouds
and this will be a winner!

I don't agree the front of the car is too dim. Correct contrast away from direct light is very important and a big part of why the new look works IMO. Anyway, see what you think when actually playing it, screenshots are never a great measure of lighting ultimately.

If you take the car out, it feels like its mid-day. If you look at the car, it's more like late afternoon.
But like you say, screenshots dont give the right feeling, and its still WIP :)

I think the lighting looks very natural, nothing jumps out and says "game", nice sutle Bokeh in the car shot.

I'm so sorry, but the pictures are on a famous FB page since yesterday :a05: (with "brightness correction" for the X4 :p)

... and on RaceSimCentral FB page too :a01:

... and InsideSimRacing FB page too...

...and other racing FB pages...

This is already old news... :p

Looking real good! I can already see how this new lighting system can produce cool morning misty feeling atmosphere or nice contrasty sunsets. I love driving in those kind of kind of conditions IRL and pCARS will be no doubt the closest thing to that.

Hi Andy,

Will the new lighting be part of the upcoming Friday build or is it still internal to SMS?

Agreed. What I just realized is that for the inner parts of the X4s front (inside the grill, in the cutouts of the front bumper... air intakes?) the lighting is in fact too bright imho. Should look more like the area in front of the rear wheels, shouldnt it?

It looks fantastic! Good to know that it'll be dynamic, I hope in Practice and Time Trial modes there will be a specific start time of the session to choose (e.g. 11 AM, 12 AM, 1 PM, 2 PM and so on), just like in e.g. GTR2 :)

"The whole system is fully dynamic and will ultimately allow full day to night transitions" - we will be needing some headlights then :)
